    Fr. Joseph Jenkins

  • An important theme for this blog is the scene in the New Testament where Jesus can be found FLOGGING the money-changers out of the temple. My header above depicts a priest FLOGGING the devils that distort the faith and assault believers. The faith that gives us consolation can and should also make us very uncomfortable. Both Divine Mercy and Divine Justice meet in Jesus. Priests are ministers of reconciliation, but never at the cost of truth. In or out of season, we must be courageous in preaching and living out the Gospel of Life. The title of my blog is a play on words, not Flogger Priest but Blogger Priest.

Do We Want YES MEN or Prophets of Truth?

art10

With all due respect to the Vatican, the Cardinal has a point. We must practice what we preach. In this case, social justice starts at home.

The Low Regard for Anglican Orders

art11

“The decision to ordain women, which the Church of England took in 1992, damaged the relationships between our Churches, and the introduction of female bishops has eliminated even a theoretical possibility for the Orthodox to recognize the existence of apostolic succession in the Anglican hierarchy.” Pope Leo XIII had the same verdict about Anglican orders back in 1896 in the papal bull “Apostolicae curae.”

Not Hard to Read Between the Lines

art12

This will be interpreted by many as an attempt to supercede the clarity of St. Pope John Paul II’s FAMILIARIS CONSORTIO with the ambiguity of AMORIS LAETITIA.

I would still want to show every respect and priests need to be obedient to Christ, the Holy Father and to their bishops. But I am also trying to be honest as I struggle with this change of direction in the Church. Parsing words by those in denial will no longer work. It is obvious now, our course has shifted.

Pope Benedict: The Man & His Legacy

art14

Pope Emeritus (he prefers Father) Benedict has become quite frail. His elevation to the Chair of Peter was a happy day for many of us formed by his writings and moved by his partnership with St. Pope John Paul II. Keep him in prayer. May his legacy and regard for the truth weather the current storms in the Church.

Father René Laurentin, RIP

art15

Father René Laurentin, a priest and historian of the apparitions of Lourdes, passed away on Sunday 10 September 2017. He was about to be 100 years old in October. His funeral will be celebrated Friday, September 15, at 10:30, in the Cathedral of Evry. They will be presided over by Bishop Michel Dubost of Evry-Corbeil-Essonnes, in the presence of Bishop Nicolas Brouwet, bishop of Tarbes and Lourdes. He will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace.

Is President Trump Pro-Life?

The Holy Father was critical of both the repeal of DACA and those who deny global warming… which he associated with the recent hurricanes.

In Other Words, Gluten = Bread (Valid Matter)

art19

Low gluten hosts approved by the USCCB can be used but not the non-gluten hosts commonly used in Episcopal churches. There may be some cases where Catholics will have to restrict themselves to the precious blood. Allergic reactions can be serious and terrible. I had a friend in seminary that was allergic to metal… drinking from a metal chalice caused blistering, swelling and difficulty breathing. He even had reactions to coins!

Saving Private Ryan… the TRUE Story

Great story!

Attacked by Our Own

art21

Sometimes those who feign Catholicism are in truth the greatest enemies of the faith and bigots against those who faithfully practice.

Will the Real Santa Claus Please Stand Up?

Then who is that imposter in the red suit living at the north pole with elves and flying reindeer?
