  • The blog header depicts an important and yet mis-understood New Testament scene, Jesus flogging the money-changers out of the temple. I selected it because the faith that gives us consolation can also make us very uncomfortable. Both Divine Mercy and Divine Justice meet in Jesus. Priests are ministers of reconciliation, but never at the cost of truth. In or out of season, we must be courageous in preaching and living out the Gospel of Life. The title of my blog is a play on words, not Flogger Priest but Blogger Priest.

  1. American Catholicism/ old Catholicism

If you have a moment I’d Like to know your opinion father. I was involved in one of these churches for a few years and didn’t like the direction the church was going in. Is it schismatic in your opinion or can they truly trace he line of apostolic succession to Peter ? Should I be repentant for belonging to this church? And lastly can I remain anonymous on this post ? Thank you and God bless.

FATHER JOE: The Old Catholic Movement today is fractured, particularly over the ordination of women. The Polish National churches have separated themselves from it and the Anglicans are acknowledged but not certain (newer) Old American Catholic churches. Roman Catholicism regards them as schismatic churches. We had regarded the Old Catholics as having apostolic succession but the emergence of women priests now places that in jeopardy. Some of the so-called independent Catholic churches claim apostolic succession, but their pedigree can either not be verified or there are bishops in the line who obviously have no genuine standing. If you worshiped as a ROMAN CATHOLIC at any of these churches then YES you should bring it to Confession.
