    Fr. Joseph Jenkins

  • The blog header depicts an important and yet mis-understood New Testament scene, Jesus flogging the money-changers out of the temple. I selected it because the faith that gives us consolation can also make us very uncomfortable. Both Divine Mercy and Divine Justice meet in Jesus. Priests are ministers of reconciliation, but never at the cost of truth. In or out of season, we must be courageous in preaching and living out the Gospel of Life. The title of my blog is a play on words, not Flogger Priest but Blogger Priest.

Christ & the Davidic Kingship?

QUESTION:  Regarding the Old Testament promises with respect to the Davidic Dynasty and the Lord decreeing that David’s throne would be established forever how are we to understand the prophecy when there was a time when Judah fell and the Jews went into exile (725-585 BC)? While I wholeheartedly believe that Christ would inherit the throne of David, there was no one sitting on the throne of David. How could it be a continuous succession? Some how would it just continue in perpetuity, despite the gaps? Could the Papal throne on the earth today be understood to be part of the fulfillment of the Davidic throne established forever or does that only apply to Jesus in heaven?

ANSWER:  Gaps in mortal rule are obvious, although the line of David continued among God’s people as did divine providence. The everlasting rule is made manifest in Christ. Jesus is a king with two crowns: as divine he invites us into his heavenly kingdom; as man he fulfills the messianic prophecy of the human and Davidic kingdom. Jesus joins these two kingdoms into one. Every year we have a feast where we celebrate Christ the King. Just as David had a steward who was the keeper of the keys; Peter or the Pope fulfills this role for Christ. Jesus gave him and the Church the keys to the kingdom of heaven.

  1. Idont doubt, that I have things to answer for, but not to you, in your blasphemous confessional box,or to your so called pope Mt 23 v 9.

FATHER JOE: Not believing Catholic truths is your business. Many Christians might not agree with each other but they can exhibit civility and acknowledgment of a shared love in Jesus Christ. I looked at your website. I will not post the link. There is nothing of either truth or love there. Indeed, it exhibits an obsessive animus against Catholicism fueled by scandals and all the old ignorant and bigoted stereotypes. The quick citation of Matthew 23:9 is almost comical if it were not so sad: “Call no one on earth your father; you have but one Father in heaven.” Do you know nothing of Hebraic hyperbole? Jews often exaggerated to make a point; it was how their language works. Jesus is simply telling us that there is no true fatherhood unless it is reflective of our heavenly Father. He uses the word “teacher” in a similar way, and yet I suspect you called your instructors in school by this label. Indeed, did you not call your male-parent, “father”? Ignorance makes fools of people who hate the Catholic Church as you do. As for the sacrament of penance, you would not be worthy of Confession to a priest. Such requires sorrow or a contrite heart. There is nothing except arrogance about you. God can forgive whom he wills, but the sacrament is a means by which we are healed as members of the Church, his mystical body. Unfortunately, there is no room for the Church in your own privatized religion where you assume the “personal” role of pope or arbiter of the things of God.

and yes, I am bigotted, but only about God’s word, and the truth in Jesus Christ,

FATHER JOE: You do not even know what you are saying. Connecting bigotry to the Word of God and Jesus Christ signifies an abhorrent blasphemy against the Spirit of God. It is one thing to say that you are biased by your interpretation; but bigotry is more than that. Bigotry is a form of hatred against persons. Intolerant of opposing creeds, it employs ridicule and mockery. Bigotry is not informed but closed-minded and narrow in thinking. We should embrace the truth with inquiring minds. Catholicism is faith seeking understanding. Yours is a cult desirous of closing doors and embracing blindness where there should be a rational faith.

…as for ignorance,, well I do not know everything, and I am glad that I dont, because i would be even more edified as to the evil’s perpetrated by the vatican, and it’s Jesuits,
…e.t.c.. Ad nauseam.. Ad Infinitum …

FATHER JOE: You certainly are unusual in that you pride yourself by both your bigotry and your ignorance. It is not necessary that you know everything. But you need to know a little. Your straw-man appreciation of Catholicism is not even faithful to what we really believe. This feature is typical among those prejudiced against Catholicism. Instead of facts, you would rather live with a false presumption about the Holy See and even lies about our institutions and persons. Such is not the posture of a genuine disciple of Jesus Christ. As much as you point the finger at Catholicism, yours is the mentality and approach of Satan. He is all about ignorance, hatred, intolerance, deceit, scapegoating, etc. You ridicule the Church but say nothing about the lives of the saints and her solidarity with the poor and the oppressed. She tries to bring the Light of Christ to others, dispelling the darkness with the truth of God’s love and bringing the warmth of healing and mercy to a cold world.

And the depths of depravity to which the papist’s will go to, to hide their abuses, and we both know what abuses I am referring to.??

FATHER JOE: All are sinners needing the salvation of Christ. Did you forget this? As for his priests, the vast majority are men who have embraced a single-hearted love of Christ that flows over in their service to neighbor. Most priests are good and holy men. Your charges against the innocent will one day convict you before Christ. I feel sorry for you.

You need to repent of your blasphemous title, as you
{and your colleagues in sin}, have NO right to it.!!

    FATHER JOE:

As a spiritual father of my little church, I have every right to the title before my name. I suppose you would condemn St. Paul for blasphemy, as well as all who would imitate him.

1 Corinthians 4:14-17: “I am writing you this not to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. Even if you should have countless guides to Christ, yet you do not have many fathers, for I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel. Therefore, I urge you, be imitators of me. For this reason I am sending you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful son in the Lord; he will remind you of my ways in Christ [Jesus], just as I teach them everywhere in every church.”

  2. Dont you think you should be learning some doctrine concerning idolatry, and salvation or something??
Or learning about repentance, rather than that disgusting confessional stuff.

    FATHER JOE:
I deleted your bigoted and ignorant anti-Catholic links. You will have much for which to answer.
