    Fr. Joseph Jenkins

  • The blog header depicts an important and yet mis-understood New Testament scene, Jesus flogging the money-changers out of the temple. I selected it because the faith that gives us consolation can also make us very uncomfortable. Both Divine Mercy and Divine Justice meet in Jesus. Priests are ministers of reconciliation, but never at the cost of truth. In or out of season, we must be courageous in preaching and living out the Gospel of Life. The title of my blog is a play on words, not Flogger Priest but Blogger Priest.

Faith & Values in the News

Tribute concert held for Catholic who saved Jewish children

Irena Sendler was a Polish Catholic who saved some 2,500 Jewish children by smuggling them out of Warsaw’s ghetto.  She was eventually captured and faced cruel torture.  Nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2008, she lost out to Al Gore for his movie on global warming.  The late Pope John Paul II was repeatedly voted down because of the Church’s stance on human sexuality and the sanctity of life.  It did not seem to matter that President Reagan, President Gorbachev, and Prime Minister Thatcher claimed that he was the chief catalyst and their partner in bringing down the Iron Curtain and a Communist Eastern Europe.  After all, President Obama, another winner, has done so much more for world peace… or has he?  Hum.  I guess the Nobel Peace Prize is officially a meaningless joke… too bad.

Improvising Illinois priest barred from pulpit

The bishop did the right thing.  However, this priest should have been disciplined a long time ago.  The earlier translation did not allow clergy to change the prayers to fit their whims.  This was abuse.  The liturgy is not our personal possession but the rite of the whole Church.  We are servants of the altar, not its master.

Vatican lauds ordination of China’s missing bishop

The Red Chinese are up to their old tricks.

Newly ordained Chinese bishop of Shanghai goes missing

We need to pray for this bishop and the Church in China and Hong Kong.

Footloose: NYC Couple Arrested for Dancing

Arrested for dancing?  How do you feel about the actions you hear of lately? For instance, the EPA is using drones to monitor farmland, NYC is banning large soda, and the U.S. government will tax you if you don’t buy health insurance – are these acts infringing upon what you consider your personal freedom?  I guess Gene Kelly singin’ and dancin’ in the rain would get him arrested today.

Olympian Becomes a Sister

Here is a great Vocations story!

Socialite Denise Rich dumps U.S. passport

She was a major fundraiser for Democrats and their causes, raking in millions.  She moved freely among and was part of the entertainment industry and liberal Hollywood crowd who think they know what is best for our country.  But I guess her own fortune meant more to her than her country.  Rather than pay her share in taxes she gave up her citizenship.  I may be a poor man but I would not take all the money in the world for my U.S. citizenship!  God bless America!

  1. The terrible sinner dares to enter the place of worship when everyone is aware of his horrible sins, he is terribly remorseful, he knows hes a terrible person, he can’t even bring himself to look up at the altar, he wonders if God will ever forgive him? Will He?

I was just wondering that’s all, about how nice I “have” to be, I was thinking forgiving Obama seven times is enough, there’s got to be a limit on how nice I have to be especially perhaps for anyone who’s aware of whats true and untrue. I do agree he is doing something wrong, it’s OK to say he is wrong and he supports killing the unborn. Which is what Obama is doing.

Think of the constant forgiving that God must be doing right this moment. Wow! And he doesn’t even have to. He could smash the world like a smashing a worthless roach. Makes you wonder, a person who forgives very much, must love very much too. Well I’m just as guilty as the man on the cross next to Jesus, after all I deserve my fate. I only ask that he remembers me when he comes into his Kingdom.

  2. Ah I get it. We should despise Obama, since he is recognized and we are not. That makes us better Christians if we are spiteful and have someone else to blame besides ourselves. As Christians we should indulge in vaulting ambition to be recognized at every opportunity not to be sincere or authentic in our good works. There is a big difference between good and recognized and just boring old being good and nobody cares. God only sees the former and not the latter. Religion is what we do when everyone is watching. Cool. Then I am doing it right.

FATHER JOE: You are the one who is not authentic. You do not come here for questions or civil dialogue, but as a troll who makes a fool out of himself in what he imagines is sophisticated satire. Al Gore was PC but was that enough for the Nobel Prize? And what did President Obama do to earn the prize? Those who awarded it said that it was for what he would do in the future. Unhappy with how the bribe worked out, some of the Nobel team want the prize back. They are almost as silly as you. The Jewish and Catholic community know that Irena Sendler is a true righteous gentile and a woman of heroic sanctity. Both she and the late Pope have received their reward from our loving God. But you condemn yourself with your own words. You admit your hypocrisy but show no sign of remorse, repentance or conversion. You may not fear men, but you had better fear almighty God. You will stand under his judgment and then your smart-mouthed remarks will not disguise your deceit and faithlessness. May God have mercy on your soul.
