    Fr. Joseph Jenkins

  • The blog header depicts an important and yet mis-understood New Testament scene, Jesus flogging the money-changers out of the temple. I selected it because the faith that gives us consolation can also make us very uncomfortable. Both Divine Mercy and Divine Justice meet in Jesus. Priests are ministers of reconciliation, but never at the cost of truth. In or out of season, we must be courageous in preaching and living out the Gospel of Life. The title of my blog is a play on words, not Flogger Priest but Blogger Priest.

  1. Some of those comments are interesting….akin to a question such as: “What kind of thumb tacks are approved by the Holy church? My friend Sally uses Staples nickle plated thumbtacks and because of this I know she is going to hell!” ….although I might be making light of legitimate concerns, what is the spiritual danger in such a line of reasoning are there any pitfalls that I should be aware of? What is the danger in me being “Holier than thou”, it seems as right as rain?

…the sum of all evil in the world!

    sorry couldn’t resist.

FATHER: Sorry, but I am not sure what you are talking about.

  2. Father, this is not a comment but I don’t know how else to contact you.

I have posted this on the Catholic Answers Forums but didn’t receive a reply and have also asked at New Liturgical Movement but, as yet, haven’t received a reply.

In email correspondence with a bishop re a prayer weekend in his diocese the bishop told me that Hildegard von Binghen used the mandala as a prayer aid. Do you know if this is true? I Googled but all that came up was from dissident sites.

FATHER JOE: She illustrated her manuscripts with such artwork. However, while such patterns are known in Christianity, they cannot be connected to similar designs employed in Hinduism, Buddhism and New Age religion. We must be wary of how certain critics would redefine the life and works of this mystic. Many classical stained-glass windows follow such patterns, too.

  3. Thank you for posting that list father. Catholics have no need to seek out Hindu or New Age Spirituality when we have our 2000 + year traditions.
